Thriller authors Jeremy Robinson and Sean Ellis join forces for Callsign: King, the first book of the "Chesspocalypse." Robinson, author of the Jack Sigler/Chess Team adventures, has engaged several writers to co-author stand-alone novels, each featuring one member of the Chess Team. I have been a fan of both authors for some time and had high hopes for Callsign: King. I was not disappointed.
Here's the synopsis:
Jack Sigler, Callsign: King (field leader of the covert, black ops Chess Team) receives a cryptic text from Sara Fogg, his girlfriend and CDC "disease detective". A catastrophic disease has been reported in Ethiopia's Great Rift Valley, but Fogg suspects something more is going on. Her suspicion is confirmed when King's arrival in Africa is met by a high speed assassination attempt.
As King fights against two competing, high-tech mercenary forces, each struggling for control of the deadly discovery, Fogg disappears. Working with the surviving member of the science team that made the discovery, King begins a search for Fogg and the source of the potential plague that takes him back to the Great Rift Valley, back to the Elephant Graveyard, and brings him face-to-face with modern man's origins.
Callsign: King joins Robinson's signature breackneck pacing with Ellis' solid prose and deft handling of characters. Like other Chess Team books, the plot maintains a rapid pace, and there is never a good spot to stop reading. Robinson's fans will find that Callsign: King seamlessly blends with the Jack Sigler/Chess Team universe and will find the story an enjoyable addition to the canon. Fans of Ellis' Nick Kismet and Dark Trinity series will likewise feel they are on familiar ground as the resourceful hero combats a modern danger grounded in an ancient mystery. Callsign: King is the quintessential action-adventure book. A don't-miss for your summer reading list!
